A friend of mine did a funny thing. He bought himself a new iPod Nano – the 6th generation one that everyone has been wearing like a watch – and started to bling it out. Kenneth Tong is the type of guy who does this sort of thing. A fan of diamonds and other shiny precious things, he would never have just worn the iPod Nano like a watch the “normal” way on a NATO strap on in one of those cheap silicone things you can buy. No, he needed it to have diamonds, which the bracelet he had custom made for it does.

But it got me thinking. Not about diamond decoration – people have been decorating things they like with diamonds for eons. More about the allure of the iPod Nano as a watch. People have been remarking on how “watches are dying.” Referring to the fact that some people are choosing their mobile phones over watches. I say that these people probably didn’t have very nice watches to begin with, but that is beside the point. The point is why is it that the iPod Nano comes out, has a time function that displays an analog clock, and the geek world that is so convinced they no longer need watches, clamor to get the thing on their wrist? Isn’t that just a bit ironic?

Underneath where the ring connects, there is a diagnostic port that is used internally by Apple for diagnosing problems when a client brings an Apple Watch in for support, and a fresh relocated air vent. The screen of this Apple Watch can be customized using a selection of watch faces including traditional watch-style layouts, Disney characters, animated pictures, and much more, all of which may be personalized with complications and a variety of colors.Apple Watch owners may even customize their devices through their band selection, and Apple delivers a vast assortment of bands which can be paired with the smart watch. There are also many bands available from third-party companies. Apple Watch Series 3 comes in Silver Aluminum, Space Gray Aluminum, Gold Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Space Black Stainless Steel, White Ceramic, and Gray Ceramic. All of these are available at different price points. Aluminum models are lightweight, inexpensive, and designed for an active lifestyle, although the Stainless Steel models are thicker, more expensive, and more prone to scratches. The glistening but durable Ceramic versions using a pearl-like shine are the most costly of all and therefore are considered a part of this luxury “Edition” line. Like the Series two Apple Watch, the Series 3 versions are rated for immersion as deep as 50 meters thanks to mats and seals. The speaker, which requires air to produce sound, is the only stage of ingress and was made to expel water from itself using sound vibrations after exposure to moisture. Since it’s rated for 50m immersion, the Apple Watch can be used when swimming at the sea or inside a pool. It’s just suited to shallow water actions, though, and can not be used for scuba diving, waterskiing, showering, or other pursuits that involve high-velocity deep or water submersion.

No, I don’t think it really is ironic. I don’t think that people who wore a decent watch they felt an emotional connection to ever stopped wanting to wear a watch when they suddenly realized that something else could tell them the time. Kids that use their phones over a watch do so because no one in their lives ever got them a decent watch.

Kenneth, my friend, has had a lot of watches. He isn’t going “Nano” on us, but he is experimenting with it. Taking a break from traditional timepieces to see how this bit of bona fide modern technology serves as an alternative. Because he is into jewelery and alike items, he wanted to dress the Apple Watch 50 Off product up a bit. In this case it means diamonds of the white and black variety.

No one will suggest you ditch your timepiece for an iPod Nano – but the concept is interesting. The Nano has the ability to show images, play music, and of course, tell the time. The time telling function features the time with the date, but it rather basic with just one screen that can be viewed with either a black or white dial. I kept saying that Apple Watches How Much should have included more dials, and given people the ability to upload custom ones using the basic time program. Oh wait, Apple doesn’t do open source, open platform I forgot. If they had good optional dials, people would likely pay for them.

People rushing to stick the Nano on their wrist tells me that people are looking for technologically sophisticated watches to show their face in the mainstream. Yes we can get oddly made mobile phone watches and alike, but these aren’t ready for prime time – at all. Wait 5-10 years and we will have some much more legitimate wrist tech that will be more than useful.

For the first time, as a result of chip and battery improvements, 1 Apple Watch 2 Phones has managed to bring LTE connectivity into the Apple Watch. Apple Watch Series 3 is no longer tethered to an iPhone, an improvement that Apple says has been its vision to your watch from the beginning. With LTE connectivity, so it is possible to leave your iPhone behind if you run errands, go to the shore, or go for a run, but remain reachable via phone call or a message. You are able to listen to streaming audio, get GPS directions, interact with Siri, and utilize third-party apps, all within a mobile link. A new red Digital Crown is available on all LTE Apple Watch models, but aside from this tweak, the plan of the Apple Watch Series 3 remains largely the same as the Apple Watch Series 2. It’s available in 38 and 42mm varieties to fit a range of wrist sizes, also it’s exactly the same size and shape as the Series two Apple Watch. There is only 1 change — the back crystal which rests against the wrist has been extended by 0.25mm. The size change shouldn’t be noticeable to most users because 0.25mm is equal to the depth of two sheets of paper. As always, the main focus of this Apple Watch is health and fitness, and Apple’s aim is to get people to be more active with attributes like built-in action reminders and customized fitness goals. The Apple Watch Series 3 continues to measure health metrics such as measures taken, calories burned, and heart rate. It’s able to monitor many tasks employing the workout program, and at the Series 3 models, there’s a fresh barometric altimeter for monitoring elevation gains and flights of stairs climbed.Apple Watch Series 3 is powered by a new dual-core processor that provides 70 percent greater performance than the processor from the Apple Watch Series 2. With the new processing power, Siri is faster than ever and will answer queries aloud for the first time. Apple Watch Series 3 provides all-day battery life, but LTE use impacts how long the battery lasts. A brand new Apple-designed W2 chip offers 85 percent quicker Wi-Fi while also being 50 percent more energy efficient for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. And also to empower LTE connectivity, you will find new elements like a small electronic SIM and tweaks to flip the display itself into a multifrequency LTE antenna. Despite all these new elements, Apple Watch Series 3 still provides 50m water resistance and improved seals, making it appropriate for swimming.

For now Kenneth is acting as a bit of an early adopter. Showing us that technology can be sexy and even luxurious. Here he has done something relatively simple. Create a modified bracelet that functions as a strap for the iPod Nano clip. Whether you like it or not, you have to agree that the future will have people blinging out their iPod Nano watches. For Kenneth, this may just be the strap. The next step may include working on the iPod Nano itself. Adding diamonds in clever ways to make it more interesting. There are a ton of possibilities. I say – have at it. This is watch culture at its finest and most dedicated because it is taking something that is part of a family of products that people claim helped kill demand for watches, and shows how people couldn’t wait to put it back on their wrists.
